The Supreme Court on Wednesday directed Inspector General National Highways & Motorway Police (NH&MP) Zafar Abbas Lak to submit a report on measures taken to apprehend former chairman Oil & Gas Regulatory Authority (Ogra) Tauqir Sadiq. The court also issued directives to National Accountability Bureau (NAB) to arrest Tauqir Sadiq with the co-operation of Punjab Police, Motorway and Islamabad Police.

A two-member bench of Justices Jawwad S Khawaja and Khilji Arif Hussain resumed the hearing of the case and expressed dissatisfaction over police's failure to arrest the former chairman Ogra. Appearing on court's notice, Inspector General Punjab Police Haji Habibur Rehman and Zafar Abbas Lak told the bench that they extended co-operation towards the arrest of Sadiq in their capacities.

Justice Khawaja observed that Sadiq was responsible for causing a Rs 82 billion loss to the national kitty as well as for the prevailing crisis of Compressed Natural Gas (CNG). He said it seemed no progress had been made if the anti-terrorist cell of Punjab Police was unable to arrest Sadiq. The bench observed that country's top anti-corruption watchdog had submitted that Punjab Police and NH&MP were not extending co-operation to it to nab the former chairman Ogra. The bench adjourned the hearing of case till December 26.
